Sudoku
Sudoku puzzles for the Puzzle Day tournament will be hand-crafted by US and World Sudoku Champion Thomas Synder.
- Other puzzles written by Thomas Snyder
- Series of videos of Thomas Snyder solving puzzles and giving tips, from the Stanford School of Medicine
- Trizm Puzzles, A Trizm Puzzle™ is a number-placing logic puzzle, but it's played on a board of triangles and vivid colors instead of a grid of black and white boxes. Like Sudoku, the rules are simple and easy to learn—but without the familiar rows and columns, it's always fresh and challenging. Think outside the box!
Cryptic Crosswords
Like last year, a special bonus Cryptic Crosswords tournament has been added to the schedule.
Haven't tried these puzzles yet? Don't worry, there will also be a workshop on Saturday to get you all up to speed before the competition.
Killer Sudoku
Like the past few years, this year a special bonus Killer Sudoku tournament has been added to the schedule.
According to Wikipedia, killer sudoku "is a puzzle that combines elements of sudoku and kakuro. Despite the name, the simpler killer sudokus can be easier to solve than regular sudokus, depending on the solver's skill at mental arithmetic; the hardest ones, however, can take hours to crack."
Killer Sudoku follows the same sudoku rules except you are given clues in the form of totals for a group of boxes which will give clues from which you can deduce the numbers.
Haven't tried these puzzles yet? Don't worry, there will also be a workshop on Saturday to get you all up to speed before the competition.
