How the Tournaments Work

The Sudoku and Crossword tournaments will each consist of three puzzles of increasing difficulty. There will be a time limit for each of the puzzles. Puzzles will be handed out face down, and when the start is announced, you can then turn your puzzle over and begin. Once done with the puzzle, please raise your hand and one of the runners will come over and get the puzzle. They will write the time on the puzzle then bring it to the scorers.

A group of volunteers will be correcting the puzzles and their decisions are final. Scoring is done by the number of correct answers in the least amount of time---so both count. There will be a short break between each puzzle.

In the adult division, 3 finalists will be chosen--- the 3 with the highest scores with the best time -- and they will come up front and do the final puzzle on large puzzle boards in the championship round. (There is no championship round for Youth. Winners will be chosen by ranking in 3 preliminary rounds.) Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories (including a special Judge's Award for the best handwriting!)

Like last year, there will also be bonus rounds of Killer Sudoku and Cryptic Crosswords, each consisting of one puzzle each. Everyone is encouraged to try their hand at these variations.

No electronic devices or headphones will be allowed to be used during the tournament rounds.
